'Of course we already organize regular open days', RU spokesperson Martijn Gerritsen explains. 'However, we also wanted to give international students a chance to look around without having to get on a plane.' Although this is the first time the RU is hosting a Virtual Open Day, many international students appear to be interested. 'As of right now, six hundred prospective students have already registered and we are only expecting this number to go up. We also see people signing up from many different countries. With 88 nationalities, it is a very diverse group.'

During the first edition of the Virtual Open Day on January 24, future students can attend online classes about the different bachelor and master programs, and chat with current students for answers about their studies and about Nijmegen. During the open day, students can also get information online about practical issues, such as getting a visa or finding housing. There is even a virtual tour across campus. 'It is important to provide good information', Gerritsen explains. 'This way, we can make sure that the right students end up in the right place.'
